Building your business context

Last updated: August 20, 2026

Overview

The Business Context skill (/build-business-context) teaches your AI tool how your business actually works — what you sell, who buys it, what your goals are, and the quirks that make your metrics misleading. It combines public research about your business with a short interview, then saves the result both as a file you add to your AI tool's workspace and to Noibu, so your teammates inherit the same grounding.

Every other Noibu skill produces sharper analysis once this skill has been run, because your AI tool stops falling back on generic ecommerce assumptions.

This skill is included with Noibu's AI plugin.

Why it matters

Without business context, your AI tool interprets your data the way it would interpret any store's data. That risks producing confident but wrong conclusions: flagging a product page as broken when it has a deliberate minimum order quantity, or treating B2B cart abandonment the way it would treat B2C. Business Context important background so analyses are more specific to your business.

How to trigger it

Type /build-business-context, or ask "set up my business context."

How it works

  1. Confirms which store. If context already exists for that domain, the skill tells you and only regenerates with your go-ahead.

  2. Asks a short set of setup questions. Whether you have existing strategy documents or personas to fold in.

  3. Researches your business. What you sell, who you sell to, company size and age, your ecommerce platform, the apps in your stack, your positioning, your competitors, your brand voice, and recent news. It then reports what it found and lists what it could not confirm, so you can correct the research before the interview.

  4. Interviews you. The things research cannot reveal — your goals for the year, where you suspect you are losing money, your performance targets and current numbers, how you describe your customer, your tech stack quirks, how you deploy code, how support works, your marketing channels, and how you want your AI tool to work with you.

  5. Writes the file. A Markdown document with this context, including how to read your analytics and what makes your numbers misleading. Anything unconfirmed is marked so you can verify it later.

  6. Saves it to Noibu. The context is stored against your domain, so the next teammate who runs the skill inherits it rather than starting over.

What you get

This skill produces a Markdown file. The file covers:

  • A company snapshot and your customer base

  • How to read our analytics — the gotchas that would otherwise produce wrong conclusions

  • Your goals for the year and where you suspect money is leaking

  • Performance targets and current numbers

  • Your tech stack, deployment process, and support workflow

  • Brand voice and personas

  • Marketing channels and known challenges

  • How you want your AI tool to work with you

  • A list of items to confirm, for anything research could not verify

Your AI tool does not use the file automatically. You have to add it to the workspace or project where you do your Noibu work.

In Claude:

  1. Create a project.

  2. Add the context file in the Context area in the project sidebar.

  3. Do your Noibu work inside that project.

Other AI tools may handle this differently but the principle is the same: the file has to sit somewhere the tool reads on every conversation, rather than being attached to a single one.

If your organization's plan supports shared projects or shared workspaces, share it with the team so everyone works from the same context. Otherwise each person runs the skill and adds the file to their own workspace.

When to run it again

  • After a replatform, a significant redesign, or a change to your checkout

  • When your goals or targets change — typically at the start of a fiscal year or quarter

  • When a new team member needs to add the context to their own workspace, if your plan does not support sharing one

  • When you notice an analysis repeating an assumption that is wrong for your business
